Dave Huxtable, a professional jazz musician from Dalton, MA, died in Myrtle Beach, SC on January 17, 1999. Dave began studying guitar at age 10 and played his first professional engagement at the age of 12. His first full-time music position was at age 19 as a house musician at the Eastover Resort in Lenox, MA, where he performed for the next 30 years. Dave taught music in public schools from 19671988 and was a member of the Paradise City Jazz Band from MA for 8 years. After leaving Paradise City, he became a full-time member of the Hot Cat Jazz Band. He also played with The Galvanized Jazz Band and toured regularly with the Chicago Six from San Diego and the Louisiana Repertoire Jazz Ensemble from New Orleans. For years Dave dazzled crowds with his energetic style of guitar and plectrum banjo playing, bringing many an audience to their feet for a standing ovation. Dave was very popular at jazz festivals: The Connecticut Jazz Festival, The Sun Valley Jazz Festival in Idaho, and most recently in November of 1998, at the San Diego Jazz Festival. With the different groups mentioned, Dave also toured internationally performing in Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland and Germany. Most recently, when in the New Hampshire area, Dave would sit in with the Amoskeag Strummers of Manchester. His most recent work endeavor was with Arlene Boucher forming the Riverbank Jazz, a traditional jazz/swing duo or group (whatever people wanted.) They started performing at different banjo fests including the FIGA '98 convention in Kentucky. Together, along with Sherman Kahn, Bob Sheperd, Tom Palinko and Don Doucette, produced a CD titled "Swing That Music," his last CD recording. Just prior to his death, Dave had completed "Me, Myself And I." In Dave's memory, friends had this present work produced. All proceeds from the recording sales will go directly to the Dave Huxtable Music Scholarship Fund.

deceased jazz guitarist and music teacher (Dalton, MA) Dave Huxtable created a scholarship fund in his memory to help aspiring jazz musicians receive training. In 2001, they donated the entire fund of $11,228 to NMS to form the Huxtable Scholarship Endowment Fund, with the interest to provide financial aid for students eager to participate in NMS Summer jazz Camp or any of the
many opportunities in our growing jazz Program. The School is very grateful for the Huxtable legacy.
